Meet the PD-Care team

The study is a collaboration between two UCL departments in the UCL Research Department of Primary Care and Population Health (PCPH) which is part of the Institute of Epidemiology and Health Care and Department of Clinical and Movement Neurosciences which is part of the Institute of Neurology (ION)

Professor Anette Schrag, Chief Investigator

Anette
ProfessorÌýSchrag is a Professor of Clinical Neuroscience andÌýConsultant NeurologistÌýat University College London (UCL). Research has focussed on Parkinson’s disease, including diagnosis and clinical outcomes, clinical management of patients, including the psychiatric, cognitive and other non-motor aspects of Parkinson’s disease and clinical trials for better treatments of PD.

Professor Kate Walters, Chief Investigator

Professor Walters is Professor of Primary Care & Epidemiology and the Director of the Centre for Ageing Population Studies at »Ê¼Ò»ªÈË. Her research interests include developing and testing new approaches to improving the healthcare for people with complex health needs, including Parkinson’s Disease, dementia and frailty.Ìý

Dr Kumud Kantilal - Programme Manager

Dr Kantilal is a Senior Research Fellow at the Centre for Ageing Population Studies and Research Department of Primary Care and Population Health, UCL. She is a registered pharmacist and her current research interests include medicines optimisation and developing services to improve health and quality of life in older people with complex health needs, such as Parkinson’s Disease, cancer and multiple long-term conditions.

Kavita Bains, Research Assistant/Live well with Parkinson'sÌýSupporter

Kavita is a psychology graduate, with an interest in mental health, health psychology, and working with underserved communitiesÌý within healthcare settings and research. Her previous experience includes working as a mental health care navigator across GPs and as an Assistant Research Psychologist, within NHS and university Psychosis and trauma related trials.

Tasmin Rookes, Research Assistant

Tasmin Rookes, Resarch assistant
Tasmin is interested in health psychology and neurocognitive disorders. She has worked on a variety of behaviour change clinical trials, promoting the self-management of long-term conditions, including cancer survivorship, stroke, asthma, and COPD. She has joined the PD-Care team following the completion of her MSc in Clinical Trials, from UCL.

Alice Burnand, Research Assistant/Live Well with Parkinson'sÌýSupporter

Alice PD-Care
Alice is interested in neurodegenerative disorders and geriatric psychiatry. She has a background in neuroscience and psychology and has worked with a variety of peopleÌýwith a diagnosis of dementia, Parkinson’s and anxiety. Alice has particular interest in translational research, exploring ways to improve the well-being of those with affective and neurodegenerative disorders.

Elena Profyri, Research Assistant

Elena is a psychology graduate, with an MSc in Dementia and Mental Health research at »Ê¼Ò»ªÈË. She has an interest in healthy ageing, and mental health for people with neurodegenerative disorders living in the community. She has worked with people living with neurocognitive disorders and has aÌýstrong interest in behavioural and psychological interventions that improve psychological well-being, promote independence and increase quality of life for people living with neurodegenerative disorders.Ìý She has several yearsÌýexperience working at the NHS in mental health settings as an Assistant practitioner and Researcher on neurocognitive and mental health related clinical projects.

Ruth Illingworth

RI
Ruth works at the Bradford Institute for Health Research. Her background includes working as a Specialist Speech & Language Therapist in adult acute and community settings with specialist interest in stroke and Parkinson’s. In her spare time she enjoys art, reading, Pilates and walking. She particularly enjoys meeting participants and discovering more about them.

Dr Nathan Davies, Co-Investigator

Dr Nathan Davies is an Associate Professor of Ageing and Applied Health Research and Deputy Director for NIHR Research Design Service at »Ê¼Ò»ªÈË. His research focusses broadly on older adults and developing and testing interventions to meet their needs, with a particular interest in dementia. His previous research has included work on clinical decision making, nutrition and hydration in dementia, carer support, and eHealth interventions.

Dr Jennifer Sarah Pigott, Clinical Fellow

Jen Pigott
Dr Jennifer Pigott is a Clinical Research FellowÌýworking towardsÌýa PhD. She is a Geriatric MedicineÌýand General InternalÌýMedicine Specialist Registrar inÌýNorthÌýLondon. She hasÌýspecialistÌýinterests in movement disorders, in particular Parkinson's Disease and cognition. Past research experience includes work on memory and personality, and pharmacological models of psychosis.

Dr Danielle Nimmons, NIHR In-Practice Fellow in General Pactice

Danielle photo
Danielle has an interest in healthy ageing, health inequality and medical education. Previous research experience includes work on dysphagia in older people and frailty.
