An inclusive culture starts at the top

Fostering a diverse and inclusive learning and working environment is crucial to innovation and wellbeing, and itÌýstarts at the top: equality objectives are a key feature of the annual performance plans of each member of the Senior Management Team and members of the Senior Management Team also take on equality leadership roles.Ìý

Our awards and charter marks

We're proud to have beenÌýawarded a number of charter marks in recognition of our achievements in equality, diversity and inclusion and we are also currently working towards the Business Disability Forum’s Disability Standard accreditation.

Athena SWANÌý

In 2015 UCLÌýreceived a Silver Athena SWAN award from the Equality Challenge Unit (ECU), in recognition of the university’s commitment to tackling gender inequality in higher education. Several departments have also received Gold Athena SWAN awards.

HR Excellence in ResearchÌý

UCL gained the European Commission's HR Excellence in Research Award in 2013, which has been successfully reviewed in 2015 and 2017. The award recognises the systems and practices we have in place to support researchers' career and professional development in line with the Concordat to Support the Career Development ofÌýResearchers.Ìý

Race Equality Charter Bronze AwardÌý

»Ê¼Ò»ªÈËasÌýone of the first universities in the UK to be formally awarded for its efforts to understand, and take steps to address, racialised inequalities in the academy.ÌýThe university was only one of eight institutions to receive a Bronze award for a pioneering, national pilot of the Race Equality Charter for higher education in 2015.
