What are the training opportunities?

  • Level 3 accredited health and safety qualification that enables TechIOSH membership (e.g. NEBOSH General Certificate).
  • Level 6 accredited health and safety qualification that enables CertIOSH membership (e.g. NEBOSH National Diploma or equivalent.)

Please refer to the flowchart to see what training would be most appropriate for you.Ìý

Level 3 qualification

The Level 3ÌýNEBOSH General Certificate is aimed at people who have a background knowledge of managing health and safety and are actively developing and maintaining a safety management system within their departments.

Level 6 qualification

For the experienced safety professional, the NEBOSH Diploma may seem like the natural next step. However, this is not the only option. The NVQ Level 6 is an equally prestigious and respected degree-level qualification.ÌýSo how do they differ, and which one is right for you?

What is the NEBOSH Diploma?
The NEBOSH National Diploma is regarded as a first step to becoming a chartered safety and health practitioner and is currently held by over 10,000 professionals.

What is the NVQ Level 6?
NVQs are the UK's premier vocational qualifications, offering a practical, evidence-based approach to learning, which can be undertaken while continuing to work.ÌýÌýLevel 6 is designed for people whose responsibilities include developing and implementing health and safety procedures within their workplace. They are probably in a full-time health and safety role.

What’s the difference between NEBOSH Diploma and NVQ Level 6?
The NEBOSH Diploma option is ideal for candidates who are comfortable with an academic style of learning, assessed by Open Book Examinations (these are digital assessments that can be done from home).Ìý

NVQ Level 6 is most suitable for candidates who prefer a practical, work-based style of learning and is an excellent option for people who wish to continue learning in a full-time job while studying, and is assessed on a portfolio basis, rather than through exams.

You mustÌýmeet all the compulsory course requirements and maintain a satisfactory level of achievement throughout the course/training programme.

What are the benefits?

  1. Commitment – investing in the professional development of safety professionals demonstrates that »Ê¼Ò»ªÈË is committed to the safety and wellbeing of its staff and students. 4. Reduce Risks – qualificationsÌýgrant individuals the ability to create a trusted safety framework such as T100 which outlines the processes and procedures that need to be implemented to ensure the safety and well-being of employees and anyone else who may be affected by the organisation’s activities.Ìý
  5. Compliance –Ìýcourses provide learners with a comprehensive understanding of the relevant health and safety laws and regulations that apply to their workplace. This ensures that candidates are equipped with the knowledge necessary to meet legal requirements.
  6. Positive Safety Culture - investing in safety professional development fosters a positive safety culture and ensures UCL maintains statutory compliance and avoidsÌýfines and penalties.
  7. Membership –Ìýqualifications are internationally recognised and can lead to professional membership with IOSH to help you to demonstrate your level of health and safety and help you in your career development.
