Announcing the launch of our new elearning Incident Investigation training

18 January 2023

Although UCL takes every precaution to lower the risk of work-related injuries, accidents still happen. Following an accident, an incident investigation should be carried out so that we can identify the cause and put measures in place to prevent similar incidents in the future.

Investigating incidents plays a key role in effective safety management – we investigate near misses and hazard observations as well as injuries.

This new online training course will show you how to conduct an investigation to identify what happened, why it happened and what can be done to stop it or similar incidents from happening again.

Incident investigation training

Anyone may be involved in an incident investigation. If you have a management role, you may be asked to carry out an initial assessment or even lead a local investigation team. Anybody can be asked to assist with the gathering of evidence, provide statements if they are involved in an incident or even be part of the local invesgation team due to their skills, knowledge or familiarity with the hazards or risks.

The course will take you through the following:

  • Why investigations are necessary.
  • How incident investigations help improve safety for everyone at »Ê¼Ò»ªÈË.
  • The difference between immediate and underlying causes.
  • Different types of evidence.
  • How an investigation fits into the incident management workflow.
  • How to structure the investigation report.
  • Identify when further investigation is required.
