As temperatures across the UK drop and wintery and icy conditions start to set in, follow the advice below to keep yourself healthy and safe during these winter months.

Travelling to UCL

It is essential to keep safe whilst commuting to campus and the following tips should be considered:

  • Wear sensible footwear with good grip, this helps when walking but also for those cycling or driving.
  • Wear suitable winter clothing.
  • Walk in well-lit areas so that you can see the surfaces you are walking on.
  • Take it slow and allow for extra travel time to avoid rushing.
  • Visibility – keep visible if cycling or on a motorcycle!
  • Maintain your vehicle – keep your bicycle/motorcycle in good condition or carry out a winter safety check on your car.
  • Check the weather and plan your mode of transport ahead of time.

Staying safe on campus

Here are some tips to consider to keep yourself healthy and safe whilst on campus this winter.

  • Walk on gritted surfaces and well-lit areas around campus.
  • Dry the soles of your footwear as much as possible upon entering a building.
  • Look out for wet floor signs and be wary of the floor surfaces when walking through these areas.
  • If you identify any areas of poor lighting on campus, let Estates know by raising a service request.
