Cascades Projects

Our team has been involved in major projects that have contributed to progress in the field of disaster research. We are constantly working to create new opportunities.

FORTRESS

is an FP7 project on cascading effects financed by the European Commission from 2014 to 2017. As consortium partners we coordinated and contributed to the deliverables released in the first year of the project, which has been than developed in our current research on cascading disasters.

MOVE

was a FP7 coordinated by Prof. David Alexander and it promoted a new framework for vulnerability assessment. It was funded by the European Commission from 2009 to 2012, and its output is a pillar of our work on cascading disasters.

Disaster Diplomacy

investigates how and why disaster-related activities do and do not influence conflict and cooperation. The cascading nature of disaster-politics interactions means that a disaster can turn out differently than it would have based on hazard and vulnerability parameters alone.
