Microsoft Teams is our preferred institutional platform for collaboration and online meetings, offering similar functionality to Zoom. We recognise however that there may be specific situations where Zoom is required to meet specific needs. Ìý

What does this mean for me?Ìý

If you have hosted a meeting in Zoom since January 2024 you will automatically be granted a Zoom licence and you need take no action to allow you to continue to host meetings in Zoom with up to 500 participants.Ìý

If you attend Zoom meetings but have not hosted a meeting since January 2024, you will retain your UCL Zoom account and will continue to be able to join meetings. You will however not be given a licence automatically. You do not need a licence to join meetings however if you need to host a meeting in the future you will need to request a licence.Ìý

Staff who create an account in Zoom after this change is implemented will be granted an unlicensed account by default. This will allow them to join meetings however if they wish to host a meeting of longer than 40 minutes, they will need to request a licence.Ìý

There is no change to the process to request webinar and large meeting licences.Ìý

There is no change to the process for licences for students.Ìý
