What are you studying, why are you interested in this subject and what do you plan to do in the future?Ìý

My PhD is in neuroscience. More specifically, I am interested in understanding how frontotemporal dementia occurs with the goal of better characterising the mechanism and contributing to the development of a new cure. Recently, I had the honour to be selected as one of Spain’s top 10 brightest young minds to lead the future in the Healthcare and Life Sciences category, as part of the Nova 111 list.Ìý

After UCL, I will be heading to a strategy consulting firm with the plan to specialise in healthcare and pharma whilst using all the skills I learnt during my studies.Ìý

What is the most interesting thing you’ve done, seen or got involved with while at »Ê¼Ò»ªÈË?Ìý

Having studied at »Ê¼Ò»ªÈË for seven years, I have been involved in many wonderful projects. A highlight was co-founding the LGBTQ+ STEM@»Ê¼Ò»ªÈËetwork back in 2020, a platform fostering an inclusive environment for queer staff and students (find more on Twitter !). Since then, we have organised multiple social events and exhibitions and our network counts more than 200Ìýmembers today.Ìý

I also enjoyed getting involved with UCL ChangeMakers and organising the first-ever Postgraduate Conference at the Faculty of Brain Sciences.Ìý

Have you discovered any hidden gems during your time at »Ê¼Ò»ªÈË?Ìý

One of my favourite places at »Ê¼Ò»ªÈË is the Japanese Garden on the main campus. I also like the quiet library at the Institute of Neurology.Ìý

Give us your top three things to do/see/go to in London:Ìý

1. Primrose Hill: I love green spaces and Primrose Hill has stunning views of London.Ìý

2. Greenwich: come to the market and stay for the vibes, the museum, the park and all the local shops.Ìý

3. Go to musicals and shows! West End and smaller theatres are full of talent and creativity that only London offers.Ìý

What’s one thing you’d like to see in a post-Covid world?Ìý

Covid has shown the importance to raise awareness for mental health and EDI. I hope workplaces and educational institutions prioritise these two points when developing long-term strategies.Ìý

Who inspires you and why?Ìý

So many peopleÌý– from UCL's own Professor Selina Wray and Dr Luciano Rila, to Dr Rosalind Franklin, Freddie Mercury and Dr Alfredo Capinetti. They all are inspiring role models who demonstrate that following your passions can take you anywhere.Ìý

What would it surprise people to know about you?Ìý

I love dancing and whilst I was living in Armenia, performed a duet on national Armenian TV to a Coldplay song. Apparently, I was destined to come to UCL.Ìý
