UCL Research Challenges 2009: open for bidding

  • Bidding is now open for the UCL Research Challenges 2009.

    UCL Research Challenges is a unique scheme that asks everyone in the UCL community - staff, students and alumni - for their ideas about new areas for research, and then awards funds totalling £50,000 each year to help kick-start research projects focusing on those areas.

    This year, the Research Challenges Board decided to look for themes of potential strength at »Ê¼Ò»ªÈËhich have not, to date, received the funding and publicity they deserve.

    After consultation with staff, students and alumni, the following themes were selected:

    • Film studies
    • Stem cell research in stroke illness
    • Future of food
    • Global governance
    • Migration
    • Security
    • Human rights
    • Evolution of multi-cellular life

    Bids should be presented on a single side of A4 and received by 15 June 2009. The competition rules can be accessed .

    A total of £50,000 is available, with a maximum bid of £25,000. can be found on the Research Challenges site.Ìý

    Following the bid, a second round of shortlisting will take place, and a selection of applicants will be asked to provide further supporting material.
