Description
This module draws on the fields of value, design and operations management. It will review the theory and principles of these approaches (with an emphasis on Value Management due to the courses accreditation by the IVM). It will discuss the nature of value in portfolios, programmes and projects and enable you to design appropriate VM study styles and to apply various analytical methods. This is a practical and applied module and as such it is hoped that you will acquire advanced skills and competencies in facilitation and VM leadership.
Aim:
The aim is to equip you with the competencies and tools to deliver value management consultancy services. It will combine knowledge from value management (VM), design management (DM) and operations management (OM) with industrial experience and live workplace projects, programmes and portfolios to demonstrate how value-based studies can give direction projects and integrate multiple stakeholder perspectives on value through planning, design and operation.
Learning Outcomes:
In order to deliver the aforementioned aim, students will be able to:
- To critically reflect on and discuss the principles of value management
- Recognise portfolio-programme-project client value using various value study styles
- Manage stakeholder involvement
- Develop VM leadership, creativity and innovation skills
- Practice VM human dynamics, team-working and decision-making skills
- Apply analytical VM methods within the context of a changing project environment (such as function analysis, function cost and requirements engineering)
- Recognise VM maturity and develop advanced methods
- Review live VM workplace projects and to actively facilitate such a workshop
