Description
This module will provide an understanding of a number of key concepts and theories for value assessment in health, including an appreciation of value-based health care and value-based payments. ÌýYou will also learn about decision science and decision-making behaviour, including tools and methods to inform decisions. ÌýLastly, you will learn about the need for sustainable health financing and funding mechanisms.
Module Content:
1.ÌýÌý ÌýIntroduction to current issues facing commissioners and decision makers (agency relationship, constrained budgets, budget silos, evidence and experts)
2.ÌýÌý ÌýWhat is value? (clinical value, economic value, value measurement)
3.ÌýÌý Ìý Value based health care (history, concepts, adoption globally, challenges)
4.ÌýÌý ÌýValue based payment (value-based pricing and reimbursement models, outcome-based payments, pricing innovations to get market access)
5.ÌýÌý ÌýDecision science (how are choices made, evidence base, individual based decisions, population based decisions, understanding behaviour and behavioural change)
6.ÌýÌý ÌýDecision analysis for health innovations (different modelling approaches, use of RWE, modelling uncertainty)
7.ÌýÌý ÌýDecision tools in healthcare (history of decision support tools, evidence needed, uptake, stakeholder views of shared decision making)
8.ÌýÌý ÌýSustainable healthcare (three pillars of sustainability: social, economic and environmental, measurement and evaluation)
9.ÌýÌý ÌýSustainable healthcare financing (how much to spend, what level of coverage, how to deliver value)
10.ÌýÌý ÌýFuture healthcare system challenges (RWE, funding/budgets, ageing, digital/AI innovations)
