Description
In this module, students will undertake an independent research project on a crime and/or security-related topic. All projects will be supervised by an academic member of staff. Students will also require ethical approval from the Departmental Research Ethics committee. Students will be informed of the details and requirements of this module in the third term of year 2; they will then be required to approach members of staff to discuss possible research projects. Students can propose their own project ideas but the final decision rests with the supervisor. Students will then carry out their research and write up the final report, due for final submission towards the end of term 2, year 3. There are two points of assessment for this module: 1) A 1,000-word research plan. This document will provide a background to the proposed research project, outline the research question/project objectives, describe the proposed method and forms of analysis, and discuss the expected implications. 2) A 10,000-word final research report. This will be modelled on a journal article where applicable.
