Description
This module focuses on developing an analytical understanding of the roles that all stakeholders in the financial market ecosystem can play in achieving environmental objectives through private and public capital markets. The relative roles of governments, regulators, corporates,ÌýinvestorsÌýand financial intermediaries in achieving the net zero transition is investigated. Students in this module can expect to enhance their knowledge and expertise on how environmental, social and governance (ESG) factors are considered by financial market participants, and some of the main issues and challenges associated with this. Topics covered in this moduleÌýinclude:Ìýgreen financial products, transition finance, sustainable investing, blended finance, ESG data, and the main regulatory frameworks to support sustainable finance. You will discuss some of the trade-offs within environmental, social, and governance factors, and trade-offs between those ESG factors and broader financial goals and risks.

On completion of the module students will be able to:
• identify and evaluate how finance and economic issues influence the delivery of environmental initiatives.
• demonstrate knowledge of principal concepts of environmental finance,Ìýa.o.ÌýESG integration,Ìýthematics, engagement, impact, materiality.
• investigate the quantification of environmental / non-financial objectives and the embedding of these in traditional economic and finance theories.
• investigate and evaluate the pricing of ESG factors in global equity, fixedÌýincomeÌýand private markets.
