Description

In this module students will carry out a supervised project in the broad domain of security and crime prevention. They will have an opportunity to apply different research methods, and use knowledge of situational crime prevention and programming techniques. Starting with a project brief, the students will learn how to: organise a project into a set of tasks, critically assess different research methods, develop instruments for collecting data, and apply relevant computational methods to generate the sought results. Through this project, they also learn how new technologies (e.g. mobile phone apps, screening technologies, agent-based modelling) can be used to implement innovative research ideas. Finally, students will learn how to interpret the results of their work, and communicate findings in an effective manner to practitioners. This module is a strong foundation to carry out a dissertation in the field of security and crime prevention. N.B. the module SECU0016 Security Technologies is a pre-requisite for this module.
