Description
The objectives of this module:
- To introduce current thinking on disability, based on World Health Organisation definitions
- To explore how individuals experience hearing loss, drawing on research evidence and personal stories
- To introduce the concept of rehabilitation and investigate how it applies to audiological services
- To develop competency in the use of basic counselling skills
- To explore factors that influence uptake and use of hearing aids
- To introduce you to a range of communication tactics and investigate how they can best be taught to hearing impaired people
- To introduce techniques used in therapy for tinnitus and hyperacusis
- To expand your knowledge of support services for hearing impaired people
- To familiarise you with a range of alternative aids to communication
This is a compulsory module in stage 2 of the MSc / PG diploma in Audiological Science with Clinical Practice.
