Description

The module provides participants with the opportunity to explore a range of literature for children and young people. Participants are invited to critically reflect upon their own experiences of literature in different settings, from picture books to reading or teaching novels and poetry to the affordances of other media to tell and transform stories. They will consider the ways in which reading is conceptualised in different spaces and have opportunities to explore ways of responding to texts. They are encouraged to interrogate the social, historical and ideological factors that have shaped writing for children and young adults over time. Participants will explore a range of theoretical perspectives as applied to particular texts and experiences of these texts. They will critically consider the representation of children and childhood in fiction as well asÌýbroader issues of representation and voice in publishing. This module offers the opportunityÌýto find out about approaches to research within the field and for participants to develop their own investigationsÌýto interrogate curricularÌýand pedagogical choices, learner experiences andÌýtheir own personal responses to literature for children and young people.

Assessment: One summative assessment (either essay, oral presentation plus written reflection or creating a children's book plus writen reflection).ÌýÌýÌý
