Strong leadership, management, and communication are essential skills in the art of public health. This module is designed to give you a solid foundation in the theory and practice of strategic leadership, change management, and leading effective teams from a public health perspective.ÌýÌý
We will use a range of group activities and scenarios to explore the application of leadership theory in public health practice. You will be stretched to reflect critically on leadership and management from an ethical and public health perspective using case studies and practical examples. You will gain core skills and tools to work successfully and effectively across organisations.  You will also hear from public health professionals on their reflections on real world leadership experiences to understand the various tensions and challenges in practice.ÌýÌý
It is often necessary to use various approaches and work with a range of stakeholders, particularly when you do not have direct authority, which is frequently the case for many public health leaders. There will be an emphasis throughout this module on navigating power and leveraging resources to achieve system change.Ìý Ìý
Working relationships, and organisational cultures are shaped by individual behaviours. You will develop knowledge and skills for effective negotiation, influence, and communication. You will be asked to reflect on your personality type, teamworking and leadership styles based on previous experiences, and improve your self-awareness throughout the module.ÌýÌý

Aims: Ìý
This module explores theories and practices of leadership and management within the public health sector. It encourages public health leaders to explore their own leadership and followership styles and develop their self and social awareness as well as learn about managing relationships with themselves and others. The module examines structural racism and emphasizes the importance of decolonization, diversity and inclusion in the context of public health leadership. It addresses topics that are especially important within the modern-day public health leadership context such as strategic planning, change management, innovation, teamwork, communication, negotiation, advocacy, having clear mission, vision and values, and developing a systems thinking approach to problem solving.ÌýÌý
