Description

This is an introductory module to evidence based dental practice. The module is designed to provide students with a thorough understanding of the principles of evidence based practice and their implementation. This includes current concepts of dental diseases and methods of prevention. A key element of the module is equipping students with the skills to critically appraise the scientific literature.

After taking this module, students will have developed:Ìý

  1. An appreciation of principles and implementation of evidence based practice
  2. Up to date knowledge of the aetiology of dental diseases and the evidence base for preventive strategies
  3. The skills required to critically appraise scientific papers.

This module is open to students registered on the MSc Dental Public Health.

Students attend a series of lectures in Term 3 of the academic year. Critical appraisal skills will be practiced during interactive seminars throughout the year involving the discussion and appraisal of published journal articles.
