Description
This module focuses on the practical elements of a human rights career. Through engagement with topics ranging from the basics of human rights documentation work, to the ethical challenges raised by work with vulnerable populations, to selfcare and the management of vicarious trauma, it introduces students to some of the skills and dilemmas that are part of the everyday practice of human rights. By the end of the module, you will: (1) understand what human rights work looks like across a variety of career paths, (2) be able to engage constructively in debates about best practices in the profession; (3) have completed a group research and writing project, similar to what you might be asked to do as a human rights practitioner.
