Description

Content: These seminars will introduce affiliate students to the style, structure and content of the UCL BSc Psychology programme. The seminars will develop key academic skills relevant to a range of disciplines that are studied in scientific psychology, such as cognition, perception, developmental psychology, neuroscience and health psychology. Students on the module will learn academic skills that are required on our programme (in particular report and essay writing, and critical assessment of research papers) and which are particular to the UK education system in general and a British Psychological Society accredited BSc Psychology degree programme in particular. All Affiliate students with Psychology as their home department must attend seminar sessions. If students do not choose to officially enrol on PSYC0007 for credit they must still attend seminars as they provide students with important skills and experience and are a mandatory supplement to studying Psychology at »Ê¼Ò»ªÈË.

Teaching delivery: This module is usually taught in 9 in-person small-group tutorial sessions.

Indicative Topics: Indicative topics – based on module content in 2023/24, subject to possible changes: Introduction & orientation, Effective Reading, Essay Structure, Balanced Arguments & Evidence, Critical Analysis, Group Presentations, Self-reflection / open session, Closing Seminar.

Module Aims: The aim is to equip students with academic skills that are required in studying Psychology (in particular report and essay writing, and critical assessment of research papers).
