Biography

Rev. Nicholas Tindal, pluralist Anglican clergyman and at the time of his death Chaplain of Greenwich Hospital. He has an entry in the ODNB as 'historical writer.' Tindal held annuities on 'West India property' among his broader portfolio of annuities. In his will he left an annuity of £36 p.a. secured on the estate of William Irish in Montserrat; he also appeared (as of Greenwich) in a list of purchasers in the sale of annuities of Admiral Arthur Forrest (q.v.) on the Masemure estate in Jamaica in 1768 (which is not specified in his will). He was the great-grandfather of Sir Nicholas Conyngham Tindal (q.v.).

  1. Will of Rev. Nicholas Tindal rector, clerk of Alverstoke Hampshire, proved 07/07/1774. He left his daughter Letitia three annuities he held on her life (£14 p.a. from the parish of St Leonards Foster Lane; £15 p.a. from the Commissioners for Paving the streets of that part of the parish of St Botolph Aldgate lying in Middlesex; and one Exchequer life annuity of £20 p.a. of 1745. He left his wife Elizabeth Judith Tindal £300 in 3% stock of 1751 transferable at the South Sea House, an annuity of £20 p.a. on her life that he held from the Commissioners for enlarging the harbour at Ramsgate, and an annuity of £36 p.a. on the lives of his wife and granddaughter Louisa wife of James Baden Carpenter from a plantation on the island of Montserrat owned by William Irish. In the remains of the will he disposed of other annuities and personalty.
