Architecture and space-making play a fundamental role in the construction and destruction of identity and belonging.

Drawing from extensive fieldwork and archival research into the Palestine refugee camp across the five host geographies, Samar's work attempts to illustrate what tends to be missing from the dialogue around the concept and materiality of belonging in the Palestinian story. Namely, the historical and spatial understanding into the Palestine refugee camp and the Palestine shelter, and their role in upholding a form of Palestinianhood inside a protracted displacement.

This seminar will be presented by Dr Samar Maqusi, a Research Associate in the Department of Civil, Environmental & Geomatic Engineering at »Ê¼Ò»ªÈË. It is the second seminar in the CEID series on The Politics of Belonging Under Occupation: Gender, Space and Education.

This event will be particularly useful for researchers, academics and students.
