Victoria Showunmi will discuss the research project听on leadership and identity.
To make some sense of the notion and concept of race, she suggests听perhaps making use of Omi and听Winant's (1994) definition of 'race as a concept which signifies and symbolizes social conflicts and interests by referring to different types of human bodies'.
As part of the research project, a group of White women leaders were interviewed to include their views to find out and better understand whether the construction of race has an impact on one鈥檚 individual leadership style. 听
Exploring race in the context of this study could suggest it is simultaneously an interpretation, representation, and/or an explanation of racial dynamics. This听adds to the challenge in the reorganising of one鈥檚 thinking along particular racial lines.听
In this talk, Victoria will discuss how the research presents race听as a particular discursive practice, where听social structures and everyday experiences are racially organised based on their meaning.
