IBIL supports the first 'IP Unwrapped' lunch hosted by the student »Ê¼Ò»ªÈË Intellectual Property Society

IP unwrapped panel

On 16 February 2024, the student »Ê¼Ò»ªÈË Intellectual Property Society held its first 'IP Unwrapped' lunch at the UCL Faculty of Laws with the support of the UCL Institute of Brand and Innovation Law.

The purpose of the event was to showcase the different careers and career pathsÌýin intellectual property. The audience made up of UCL IP Society members questioned the invited panel (pictured above from left to right)Ìýcomprising: patent attorneyÌýOliver Ware, trade mark attorney Cherry Shin, former US patent examiner (and current PhD researcher) Joshua Bradley, and trainee trade mark attorney (and recent »Ê¼Ò»ªÈË Laws graduate), Karolina Fryzlewicz. These discussions highlightedÌýthe different routes available to STEM and law/humanities graduates, and the nature of the additional qualifications that need to be completed.

The panel then moved on to answer questions about some of the current IP issues which are exercising IP lawyers, including IP in a time of economic downturn and the possible impact of developments in AI.ÌýOnce the panel session hadÌýconcluded, informal discussions continued on over lunch. The event concluded far later than planned because all in attendance were so interested in the subject matter.Ìý

IBIL is proud to supportÌýthe student-runÌýÌýwhich is open to all UCL IP students to join. The society organises a range ofÌýIP-related events and activities throughout the year. For more information, contact:Ìýsu.intellectualproperty-society@ucl.ac.uk.
