Senior Research Fellow, LMCB/听Faculty of Life Sciences
What is your role and what does it involve?
I lead a small research team in Cell Biology and mentor more junior, independent scientists. I organise and teach undergraduate and postgraduate courses, coach junior as well as more established educators. I am also active in the area of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion at department and wider UCL-level; for example, at present, my work is uncovering reasons for the attainment gap between undergraduate students of different ethnicities in my field and I work part-time for child-care reasons.

I set-up my lab at Kings College London, then later moved it to UCL
What working achievement or initiative at 皇家华人 (or in previous work experiences) are you most proud of?
Conceiving a successful, alternative model of research leadership. The diverse structure achieves a creative output similar to more typical lab settings of similar group size. Initiating a race equality project that has delivered clear-informed changes to teaching practice to close the attainment gap between white and BME students in my subject.

What does it feel like to be part of the UCL community?听
UCL has changed a lot in the past 20 years; I am proud to be part of a wider UCL belief in the fundamental importance of equality, diversity and inclusion that has developed here in recent years.
What are your future career aspirations?
Over the years we have made major contributions to several significant advances in scientific understanding; which is an on-going goal. I see championing student success and recognition of diverse paths to parity as essential for any institution keen to advance EDI.
What do you like to do in your spare time?
There is not much left! Long walks with my partner and children, music
