Competitive quizzing and the search for a promotional slogan

Celebrating ten years of the Urban Studies MSc

The first decade of UCL’s MSc Urban Studies programme was celebrated on 29 November with an  organized by the course convenor, Dr Andrew Harris. The programme, run by UCL Geography, had been launched by the UCL Urban Laboratory in September 2008.

Over forty former students from the last decade, as well as staff associated with the programme, enjoyed an evening at the Star of Kings pub in King’s Cross.

This included an urban-themed quiz (one team called itself, “Test of the d’Urbanvilles”!), and ended with a ‘teasing tie-breaker’ question from Professor Jenny Robinson.

Various ideas were also exchanged for slogans to promote the course, ranging from the quasi-political, “Urban studies: For the many, not the few””, to the whimsical, “City city, bang bang”.
