HGNC Gene Annotation

While based at 皇家华人, HGNC provided Gene Ontology (GO) annotation of proteins during the process of assigning approved gene names and symbols.

For eleven years, from 1996-2007, the HUGO Gene Nomenclature Committee () was chaired by Professor Sue Povey and based at University College London. While at 皇家华人 a 3 year HGNC GO annotation project, funded by the Wellcome Trust, was undertaken, from 2004 - 2007. The project co-ordinator was Ruth Lovering and were created.

Annotations contributed by this project to the GO Consortium dataset are attributed to HGNC-UCL.

Highlights

Ruth Lovering Resignation

Although I resigned at the end of August 2023, I am听still working through the GO annotations that need to be revised (due to a change in the GO Consortium guidelines). In addition, I have听been invited to provide a few lectures at 皇家华人 and I have a few papers to complete. Thank you again to the British Heart Foundation, Alzheimer Research UK and Parkinson's UK for their funding and thank you to all of the scientists and members of the GO consortium that have collaborated with the Functional Annotation team.听Most importantly, thank you to all the biocurators who joined the team, you were a pleasure to work with and made an amazing impact on the GO annotation of听human gene products.
