Professor Bramon is a clinical academic psychiatrist specialising in neuroscience in severe mental disorders. She has conducted research into the characterisation of genetic variants affecting cognition, contributing to an internationally acclaimed breakthrough in our understanding of psychosis. Elvira joined UCL in 2012 and has served as the Head of the Mental Health Neuroscience Research Department.

Professor Alan Thompson said:

Elvira brings an established clinical academic background with a strong focus on research and postgraduate leadership.听Given Elvira's demonstrated leadership skills, coupled with her extensive experience in teaching and research, I am confident she will steer the Division of Psychiatry towards even greater success.

I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Professor Glyn Lewis for his many contributions as Director over the last ten years. Glyn has ensured that Psychiatry is at the heart of the UCL Grand Challenge in Mental Health and Wellbeing. He has contributed generously to our efforts in UCL being among the first to receive a University Mental Health Charter Award, which recognises our commitment to continuous improvement in mental health and wellbeing. He leaves the Division of Psychiatry in a strong place as one of the leading centres in the UK."
