The Research Department of Genetics, Evolution and Environment (GEE) is home to over 50 research groups and a thriving community of some 200 Post-Docs, PhD Students, and support staff. Research Fellow - Molecular Ecology

The main purpose of this position is to lead the molecular, bioinformatics and statistical analyses on a NERC-funded project innovating new technologies for the detection of terrestrial biodiversity using environmental DNA isolated from the air. Your role will be to develop and optimise a sampling array for the capture of eukaryotic airborne eDNA, taking into account end-user requirements and capture and preservation of DNA.
This is a fixed term role until May 2027.

GEE invites Expressions of Interest from Early Career Researchers (ECRs) who wish to be sponsored to apply for external fellowships to establish an independent research group.听

GEE offers a world-class, interactive and supportive research environment within the Division of Biosciences at 皇家华人. We are strongly committed to recruiting and supporting the most promising ECRs who choose to secure a Group Leader Fellowship as their route to becoming a Principal Investigator. This policy applies to senior fellowships such as Wellcome Trust Henry Dale, MRC CDA, BBSRC David Phillips, NERC IRF, Royal Society URF, CRUK, ERC Starting Grants and equivalent fellowships.

Salary is provided by the external award that is secured in future applications to the relevant fellowship schemes.

BSc Biological Sciences

Biological Sciences is at the centre of UCL鈥檚 world-leading research on biodiversity and environmental science as well as human genetics, healthy ageing and many more. Many current research experts from UCL and our partner institutes are actively involved in the teaching of the BSc and MSci in Biological Sciences. Our staff have included Nobel Prize Winners, including 2014 winner and current staff member, John O鈥橩eefe. Students are able to choose from one of seven different specialist degree options after years one and two including Computational Biology, Biodiversity and Conservation, Genetics and more

MRes Biosciences

The MRes in Biosciences will provide the opportunity to undertake a major research project and to develop the generic skills required for the written and verbal communication of science.听The programme is designed for students who wish to undertake a PhD degree or to convert from other relevant disciplines and for those who wish to enter employment in an advanced capacity in industry or the public sector in the field of Bioscience. Students can choose to graduate from one of twelve specialist areas including Computational Biology, Stem Cells and Developmental Biology, Evolution and Origins of Life and more

Postgraduate Opportunities

GEE PhD Programme

The Department has a thriving postgraduate programme. It recruits 15-20 PhD students per annum from a variety of sources including Research Councils, Charity, UCL schemes and a number of inter-disciplinary centres across UCL.

GEE Fellowships

There are two different processes for Fellowships at GEE. The first is for Independent Fellowships. These are suitable for researchers with some postdoctoral experience who are ready to start up their own independent research programme.

The second is Short Term and Post Doctoral Fellowships. These are suitable for researchers who have recently completed a doctorate.
