3 September 2024

We are pleased to announce that Dr. Josep Grau-Bové has been appointed as the new Director of the Institute for Sustainable Heritage, succeeding May Cassar.

Josep Grau-Bové

Dr. Grau-Bové brings a wealth of experience and expertise to the role as heritage scientist with a special interest in lifetime prediction and preventive conservation. He currently leads theÌýIntegrating Lifetimes in Heritage CapitalÌý(ITHACA) project, funded by the AHRC, which focuses on integrating damage functions into heritage capital approaches. His involvement with the Department for Digital, Culture, Media, and Sport (DCMS) on predicting heritage lifetimes reflects his ongoing work in this area.

In addition to his research, Dr. Grau-Bové is actively involved in the creation of research infrastructures for heritage science, contributing to initiatives like the European Research Infrastructure for Heritage Science (E-RIHS) and its UK counterpart, ERIHS-UK.

“I am honored to start this position and deeply thankful to May Cassar for everything I have learned from her. She has established the institute as an intellectual powerhouse that sets the international research agenda in sustainable heritage. She has given the heritage science community a sense of possibility, a vision of what can be achieved if we work in partnership. I am committed to building on these strong foundations to deliver real impact to society and to heritage globally. To achieve this, we will continue to collaborate widely across the heritage sector and beyond.

Please join us in welcoming Dr. Josep Grau-Bové to his new role at the Institute for Sustainable Heritage.Ìý
