Profile

The Anglo-Saxon transition: An inter-disciplinary and regional approach

My main research question is to develop a falsifiable model for the countrywide and regional processes of admixture between Germanic immigrants and the local British population, between the 5th and the 9th Century in what is today England. To achieve this, I am developing a general model that Ìýsimulates admixture between incoming migrants and locals. The model includes parameters like hypergamy and relative competitive advantage, as found in relevant ethnographic studies. Furthermore, ÌýI am Ìýintegrating genetic information, historical records and the archaeological record of the Early Saxon period to form a hypothesis of the admixture process between the Anglo-Saxons and the British. Applying the Ìýgeneral model to this case study, the inferences will be tested against ancient DNA and other genetic studies.
