Initially, EPAN has been focusing on the following three main areas:
1. MS data exchange: the aim of this working group is the LC-MS/MS raw data exchanging between groups and evaluate performance of different software platforms such as Mascot, Proteome Discoverer, Scaffold, MaxQuant, Sequest and bespoke algorithms for amyloid typing.

2. Sample exchange: the focus of this work is based on different tissue preparations, mainly, fresh fat and dissected amyloid samples from Formalin鈥怓ixed Paraffin鈥怑mbedded (FFPE) tissue specimens, which will be analysed in several centres. This would act as a basis for an inter-laboratory validation scheme.听

3. Database preparation: the goal of this activity is the development of a global database focusing on the immunoglobulin light chain sequences from AL patients.
