Ian Masri (UCL Surgery & Interventional Science), has recruited 30 runners who are attempting spring marathons wearing either no shoes or minimalist "footgloves". He says: "A lot of people are choosing this form of running because they had injuries in conventional shoes. Done properly it can be helpful for knee problems, but the ankle and calf sustain greater loads, which is probably why we see more lower leg and foot injuries in people who run marathons barefoot."
