Biography
Christopher Idle, one of the assignees of the Boldero bankruptcy (in partnership with William Timson junior and Joseph Marryat senior) in 1817.
- Born in Penrith, Cumbria, 3rd son of Christopher Idle, an innkeeper, and Grace nee Munkhouse. Became a London merchant, along with his brothers John (1768-1828) and George (1769-1808). 'Prospered as a wine merchant.' Director of the Society of British North American merchants 1817-1819. MP for Weymouth and Melcombe Regis 1813-1818. In a speech on the subject of trade 28/11/1813, 'he could not allow that the restrictions on the trade of the West Indies were so great as they had been represented... They were permitted to export sugar, coffee and cocoa to all parts south of Cape Finisterre, and the other restraints were only nominal'.
